How it works

The method

Gardiv converts household members into adult-equivalent servings, estimates seasonal demand, and divides by the crop’s broad servings-per-plant range after losses.

Worked example

For two adults who normally eat bush beans, the tool combines weekly servings, fresh-eating weeks, an editable loss buffer, and a broad yield range. It reports a range instead of one falsely precise count.

Remember: Garden outputs are planning ranges. Weather, cultivar, soil, pests, sunlight, and care can materially change the result.

Common questions

Before you act on the number

Why is the range wide?

Cultivar, weather, soil, pests, harvest timing, and eating habits can all move the useful count.

Does preserving change the result?

Yes. Crops marked preservation-friendly receive a larger demand multiplier when you select a preserving goal.

Should I plant the high number?

Only when you have room and a use for the harvest. The typical number is usually a calmer starting point.
